ABOUT STEPHANIE MASON
A well-known actor in the Further Education sector having held public appointments and worked for the funding body and regulator as well as advising colleges, providers and sector bodies.I achieved my PhD in December 2025, researching The Governance of English FE Colleges, at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass). This follows my MSc in charity accounting and financial management at Cass Business School, gained in 2013. My Masters\' dissertation looked at aspects of college mergers, including the role of governors.I have an interest in all aspects of governance and have worked on Board Assurance Frameworks and risk management for the FE and academy sectors.In March 2023, I retired as Head of Further Education, Skills and Academies at RSM. I have worked in the sector for over 30 years, including time at the funding body. As well as working with the funding body and FE colleges, I worked with independent training providers, charities and academies. Specialities: governance, merger and collaboration advisory, board assurance, internal audit, reporting and developing new ideas for the sector.
