About Stanly Johny

An editor who writes, a writer who teaches and a teacher who speaks. Foreign editor with The Hindu; visiting faculty of international studies at KREA University, Sri City, Andhra Pradesh; and Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, and an author of three books-The ISIS Caliphate, The Comrades and the Mullahs and. Original Sin. A PhD in international affairs from JNU, an IVLP fellow of the U.S. State Department and an alumnus of the India-Australia Youth Dialogue and the Indo-Pacific Thinkers\' Programme (Commonwealth), I keep a strong interest in research on geopolitics and global affairs in general, and have contributed to think tanks such as the Middle East Institute (Washington DC), the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore) and the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (New Delhi). My first book, The ISIS Caliphate: From Syria to the Doorsteps of India, was brought out by Bloomsbury India in 2018 April, and the second book, The Comrades and the Mullahs: India, Afghanistan and the new Asian Geopolitics, by HarperCollins (May 2022). I have also edited Despatches: Reports from Around the World, a volume of foreign reports, and The Hindu Profiles, both published by The Hindu Group, and contributed several chapters to edited volumes on foreign policy and global politics, including India’s National Security Annual Review-2016-17 (Routledge).I travel enthusiastically to report and reluctantly to speak.
