ABOUT SOORYADAS SURENDRAN

I am a very passionate small animal surgeon, have an exciting and impressive 22 year long journey in the field of Veterinary Practice, starting my career in 2001, as a Veterinary Surgeon in the Kerala State Animal Husbandry Department. Nine years later, I joined the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, spearheading impactful teaching and practice methodologies. My expertise spans a diverse range of surgical procedures, encompassing majority of soft tissue surgeries, eye surgeries (corneal surgeries like superficial keratectomy and grafting, corneo-conjunctival advancement flaps, conjunctival pedicle grafting, phacoemulsification for cataract, surgeries of eyelids and adnexa, minor salivary gland transplantation and regenerative therapy for dry eye etc), orthopaedics (intramedullary pinning, dynamic compression plating, locking compression plating, cross pinning, external skeletal fixation etc for fixation of fracture, JPS for hip dysplasia, FHO, TWRS for luxation of patella, toggle pinning etc), open thorax surgeries (like correction of PRAA, PDA, thoracic oesophagotomy, DH), and laparoscopic surgeries (Laparoscopic ovariectomy). Also, I am very passionate and experienced with multimodal balanced anaesthesia, CRIs, inhalant anaesthesia and mechanical ventilation. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic when the entire world was under lockdown, I remotely teleguided rare surgeries for puppies stationed in Malaysia, showcasing adaptability and commitment to advancing the field. Beyond academia, I’ve collaborated with private veterinary hospitals as a specialist consultant, significantly influencing their diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. Also, I had extended my surgical expertise to the Republic of Seychelles by establishing their inhalant anaesthetic facilities and conducting their first eye surgery camp in their country; and invited to Bangladesh as a resource person for conduct of anaesthesia and eye workshop in their country.I have guided many Post-Graduate students for their research works and trained many practitioners across the country and abroad, in small animal anaesthesia and ophthalmology.
