ABOUT SHIVANI SHARMA

I am a Chartered Psychologist and Professor of Equity and Inclusion. My research focuses on issues related to the impact of protected characteristics and wider determinants of health on the experience of living with one or more long-term conditions such as kidney disease. My work has included the development and adaptation of patient reported experience and outcome measures for diverse patient communities. This is to drive meaningful quality and care improvement that addresses health gaps, attracting over £4million in research awards. Within Higher Education leadership, I have held responsibility for a range of portfolios and am currently Deputy Dean for People, Culture, Inclusion within Aston University’s College of Business and Social Sciences. Connected to community, I regularly engage in voluntary roles. I am Chair of Board at the Swindon South Asian Performing Arts Centre, a trustee at Kidney Care UK, and part of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee at Police Now. For my sustained contribution to equality leadership in different sectors, I was a finalist in the Asian Women of Achievement Awards (2023) and listed as one of 50 leaders exemplifying kindness as integral to their approach as part of KPMG’s leading lights campaign. Semi-professional dancer outside of work, mum of a 7 and 5 year old, purpose driven to translate ideas into impact.
