About Sarika Patil
I am a researcher in Medical Computer Vision focused on developing AI systems for early disease detection from medical images, particularly retinal and microscopic imaging. My work lies at the intersection of classical image processing, machine learning, and modern deep learning, with an emphasis on building efficient, interpretable, and deployable solutions for real-world healthcare settings. During my PhD, I worked on automated detection of diabetic retinopathy using fundus images, exploring both feature-based and learning-based approaches. My current research extends toward representation learning (autoencoders) and hyperdimensional computing (HDC) for compact and robust medical image analysis. I am also actively involved in efforts to deploy lightweight diabetic retinopathy detection algorithms on hardware platforms, aiming to bridge the gap between research and practical clinical use. In addition, I have contributed to applied computer vision projects in microscopic image analysis and industrial inspection, enabling translation of algorithms into working systems. My broader goal is to develop affordable and scalable AI solutions for healthcare, particularly in resource-constrained environments.
