ABOUT SANTOSH PRADHAN FRCEM

Mission Statement: To promote and campaign Emergency Medicine as the prime specialtyTo publicise Emergency Department as the Face of the HospitalTo change the perception of Emergency Department from chaotic management towards the order of resource organisation, time critical management/service provision and continuous teaching, training and learningExperience of EM in both developing world and developed country like UK.EM- undergoing transformation both in service demand and expectation from public and fellow specialities.Interested in Resource management in EM, its role in health economics, its impact in working staff- their work life balance. EM is a resource consuming speciality but is worth spending looking at the outcome (or dreading to think what if the resource are compromised). A lot of negotiation and delegation is needed to impart this truth that no other speciality can survive without EM, as much as EM is equally dependant on its fellow specialities like ITU, surgery acute medicine etc.Looking into aspects how to attract resources/manpower in UK EM (or what attracts them to come or to stay in EM)Pro-change required in EM (both in perception and reality)Contribution to current work place: Providing of consultant led care delivery for St Peter’s EDSupervision and training of junior doctors and staffs in SPH EDActively participate in governance activities and quality improvement projectsLeading ED medical workforce planning and recruitment: ED workforce management and reorganisation is known to be a challenge throughout UK with many short gaps and unfilled posts- ranging from junior doctors to specialist consultants. Drafted a recovery trajectory for workforce (20••••18), and till date SPH ED are on track or above the trajectory Developed CESR support programme for Emergency Medicine (ASPH) supporting non-training grade doctors to achieve career aspirations and support achieving competencies towards the goal of CESR application.
