ABOUT SALLY CHAN
Sally is an award-winning marketing academic and practitioner with over 30 years of experience at various Business Schools in the UK. Her subject specialism is marketing communications and climate/carbon literacy training. Sally was also the Interim Director of Sustainability in 2025, responsible for the communications focus of the new 5-year strategy, which places engagement/partnerships at the heart of its activities. She is a hands-on, visionary and inspirational leader who uses creativity to generate awareness and drive climate action. She has made significant contributions to carbon literacy training at the Faculty and was recognised with a University Recognition Award in 2023. She was also a Faculty nominee for the University Teaching Award, and her Water Bottle Brief won the Think Student Awards for Best Campaign Supporting Sustainability in 2021. In terms of practice, Sally is Trustee at the History of Advertising Trust (HAT) and has considerable links with the advertising and communications industry, including TBWA\\MCR, Ear to the Ground, BBH London. She holds various appointments as External Panel Reviewer for marketing degree programmes at other universities. Sally continues to work with organisations, such as Creative Resource, the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), and The Drum to foster creative talent in the creative industry. As a former Director of KAN-GAR-ROO Ltd, Sally evaluated design mock ups in collaboration with the Design Support Centre, Dutch-based furniture company Unimeta BV, and KM Furniture Ltd. Sally was also a Marketing Consultant for Asda Stores Ltd and Yorkshire Dance. She has successfully led student marketing consultancies for a diverse range of companies, from BR Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Greencore Grocery Ltd, Chain Bridge Honey Farm, Arla Foods Ltd, to Leeds Kirkgate Market. As a martial artist, Sally holds the position of 3rd dan in Shito-Ryu Shukokai Karate. She is also a 1st degree AMA Tae Kwon Do, 1st kyu (brown belt) in JKA Renshinkai Shotokan Karate, and a Chen-style Taiji (tai chi) practitioner. Her Ph.D. entails an historical analysis of martial arts-themed advertising in British television commercials from the 1960s - 1990s.
