ABOUT RUKMINI BEZBARUAH

I am the first DM Oncopathologist from Northeast India, working towards strengthening precision cancer diagnostics, oncologic pathology reporting, and molecular pathology integration in this region. With over a decade of experience in diagnostic pathology, my work lies at the intersection of histomorphology, molecular oncology, and structured (synoptic) cancer reporting. My goal is to improve diagnostic accuracy, standardize cancer reporting, and support multidisciplinary tumor boards to enable evidence-based treatment decisions and better patient outcomes.I received advanced training in oncopathology at The Gujarat Cancer Research Institute, Ahmedabad. Instead of limiting my work to metropolitan centers, I chose to return to Northeast India to contribute to cancer diagnostics, research, and academic oncology in a region where the cancer burden is high and diagnostic challenges are unique. My research interests include molecular alterations in solid tumors, particularly gallbladder cancer in Northeast India, breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer, biomarkers for targeted therapy, quality assurance in pathology, and improving clinician–pathologist communication.I believe that quality cancer diagnostics should be uniform across the country, not dependent on geography. My long-term academic goal is to contribute to research data from Northeast India and help build stronger oncopathology and molecular diagnostic services in the region.
