ABOUT ROMELIA GRAEFRATH
Romelia holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. in Political Science and Latino Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on federalism, policy feedback, and institutional design in U.S. public policy. Her earlier empirical work, which examined how communities navigate the effects of the U.S. detention and incarceration systems, has informed her broader interest in how individuals experience state institutions. This research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the American Political Science Association. Across her work, she is committed to building research ecosystems, mentoring the next generation of scholars, and advancing public scholarship that connects rigorous academic inquiry with real-world impact.
