ABOUT PREETHA BALAKRISHNAN

I am a molecular biologist at heart who believes in the potential of complex datasets if the right questions are asked. Over the last 11 years, I have directly or indirectly used these datasets (genomic, transcriptomic or patient-reported data) to observe population behavior, to identify diseases at an individual level or to understand the underlying mechanisms of a disease and map pathways at the molecular level.My recent role as a Medical Researcher involved generating a hypothesis and analyzing data (hypothesis testing) in a real-world set-up and compiling the results in manuscripts. It is here that I got introduced and addicted to the world of programming (thanks to the talented data scientists and engineers in the team). I thoroughly enjoy using SQL for querying and R programming to clean, annotate, prepare, analyze and statistically validate data. As I scale my skills up, I am actively looking out for my dream role as a Bioinformatician/Biostatistician or Healthcare data scientist.
