o Synthesize new polymer separators to completely stop lithium dendrites in lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries.o Optimize roll-to-roll synthesis for continuous, uniform, and high-quality battery separator production, suitable for industrial scale.o Develop new and scalable synthesis methods for polymer battery separators with enhanced performance.o Conduct basic tests on battery separators, including ionic conductivity, mechanical strength, thermal stability, and electrolyte uptake, to meet performance and safety standards.o Employ synthesized separator to suppress dendrites in other chemistries such as sodium, magnesium and zinc metal batteries.o Assemble symmetric, asymmetric, half, and full cells to evaluate the performance of synthesized polymer separators.o Synthesize NMC, LFP, and graphite electrodes using the doctor blade method for uniform coating and optimal battery performance.o Construct single and multilayer pouch cells (40•••00mAh) for advanced testing of polymer separators in real-world scenarios.o Test assembled batteries with battery cyclers to assess charge/discharge cycles, capacity, efficiency, and overall performance, while collecting and analyzing data to focus on degradation patterns, lifespan, and failure mechanisms.o Present data to meet ARPA-E project milestones and deliverables, adhering to timelines and standards.o Prepare and submit funding proposals for ongoing and future research projects.o Write, revise, and finalize research papers for publication in scientific journals, ensuring high-quality and accurate presentation of research findings.o Manage lab operations, maintain equipment, ensure a safe working environment, and train students on lab equipment, EHS safety procedures, and experimental techniques in battery research.o Stay current with developments in battery technology and polymer separator research to improve methodologies and outcomes.o Collaborate with project team members, faculty, & industry partners.
