About Mohammad Sultan Alam

Dr. Sultan Alam is an Assistant Professor (Senior) in the School of Computing Science and Engineering at VIT Bhopal University. Previously, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur, Government of India. He was also an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur, India.Dr. Alam earned his Ph.D. in Computing and Electrical Engineering, during which he conducted research in Information Theory, Network Coding, and Algorithms. He also served as a Senior Project Scientist at the Technology Innovation Hub, IIT Mandi, contributing to research in Human–Computer Interaction.His current research interests include Quantum Information and Network Coding, Algorithms, Machine Learning/AI, and their applications in healthcare, genetics, and financial data analytics. He actively leads a large and diverse research group comprising B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. students, working across these interdisciplinary domains. His group focuses on translating strong theoretical foundations into impactful real-world applications.Dr. Alam has contributed to multiple funded research projects and was the Principal Investigator of an international research grant funded by OpenAI (USA), focusing on Information Theory and Network Coding applications in AI/ML and data.He is a recipient of the Best Teaching Assistance Award (IIT Mandi, 2017) and the Best Paper Award (Bahrain, 2025).He holds an M.Tech. in Computational and Systems Biology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and an M.Sc. and B.Sc.(Hons.) in Mathematics from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh.
