ABOUT J. MIA LAHEY-RUDOLPH

Dr. Mia Lahey‑Rudolph | Biochemist | Structural & Biotechnology Enthusiast I develop and apply structural methods to solve real-world biotechnological challenges – from recombinant protein crystallisation in insect cells to SAXS/XRPD screening and workflow optimisation at the ESRF. My research has led to validated tools and processes, published f.i. in Nature Communications, IUCrJ and Journal of Applied Crystallography. I design experiential learning opportunities – both in English and German – and guide students through lab-based methods, critical inquiry, and interdisciplinary integration. I’ve supervised MSc/BSc theses and co-designed modules for biotechnology and physics-oriented curricula. I am building a professional path toward emerging fields like protein engineering for sustainable medical applications and structure-guided development of biomolecules. Passionate about fostering collaboration, I connect academia, industry and major research facilities to translate science into tangible impact. Beyond academia, I remain active in youth and volunteer work through long-standing involvement with the DLRG, most notably as co-project lead for a youth gathering and lifesaving competition in Schleswig-Holstein.
