ABOUT MARTIN IFFERT

Martin Iffert studied Electrical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He joined TRIMET ALUMINIUM in 1994 where he worked as Reduction Manager and Plant Manager before he became Member of the Board of TRIMET in 2009. Martin Iffert was CEO of TRIMET from 2011 until February 2019. Between December 2013 and the end of 2018 he was also President of TRIMET France which is a Joint-Venture between TRIMET and EdF in France.Part of his greater achievements were the successful expansion of the electrolysis production in Essen, the re-start of the idled Hamburg smelter, the take-over of the production sites in St-Jean-de-Maurienne, Castelsarrasin and Voerde, as well as their integration into the TRIMET group. He also developed the “Virtual Battery Concept” for aluminium smelters which is designed to convert classical base load consumers into flexible enablers for the energy transition.Martin Iffert has published a dozen of technical papers and presented them at international conferences. He received several awards for his work on cell optimization. In 2008 he finished his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the UNSW Sydney and got his MBA from the IMD Business School in Lausanne in 2009.Iffert is engaged in numerous Associations and since 2016 he is also the honorary President of the WVMetalle, which represents the German Non-Ferrous-Metal companies.Specialties: Managing and operating aluminium smelters; Responsible for technical and economical results; P&L responsibility top and bottom line; special know how in smelting; power modulation; virtual Battery; start-up; 9-box control; high purity metal; negotiation with unions; M&A activities; Kaizen; Learning Organization
