ABOUT MAHMOUD OBEID

Dr. Mahmoud Obeid is an Economic Expert, Manger, and Senior Policy Analyst. Currently, he is working at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), as Policy Manager (Acting) and Senior Analyst. Before that, he worked at Statistics Canada for more than two years at the Production and Dissemination Data Division, then at Entrepreneur and Linkable File Environment (ELFE). Also, he worked for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in the field of policies and programs related to the settlement. His research interests lie in the areas of International Economics, Development Economics, Macroeconomics, Economic Policy, Econometrics and Modelling. He has had many achievements, including modifying The IMF\'s Trade Restrictiveness Index, suggesting a new mechanism to track the foreign trade of each emirate of UAE, and Conducting + 100 research and studies, 15 has been published. Before moving to Canada in 2018, he was Senior Economic Researcher at Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED). He conducted studies and research covering areas of international economics, trade policy, government-related policy papers and critical issues on the economy of Abu Dhabi.(Dec 2008 – 2018) He formerly served as Director of Trade Facilitation and Efficiency, assuming this responsibility in addition to capacity as the Head of Anti-Dumping, Countervailing, and Safeguard Measures at the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade.(June 2006 – Dec 2008). In previous years, he held the following positions (19••••06) at the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade: Head of the Administrative Department, The Economist / In charge of studies & following up office, In Charge of Relations with Advanced Countries, and in Charge of Agreements and International Economic Organizations. During his work, he actively participated in many international economic conferences, expert meetings and seminars; he also led his country\'s delegation for three consecutive years in the Trade Negotiating Committee of the Trade Preferential System of OIC. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Damascus University, from which he has also obtained a Master\'s degree in Economics and Postgraduate Diploma in International Economic Relations. In 2002 he was awarded the \"Chevening Scholarship\" from the British Council to study international economics at Essex University. He obtained a BSc degree in Economics from Aleppo University.
