Recently I have began teaching Immunohematology and Clinical Chemistry.Dr. Lisa Giarraputo is a transplant from Chicago Illinois. She began her journey into academia at Canisius University [a faith-based education] in Buffalo New York, where she earned her dual bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology with a minor in Chemistry and Forensic Psychology. She later attended Capella University where she earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Doctoral Degree in Health Administration.Dr. Giarraputo began her career at WCA Women’s Catholic Hospital in Jamestown New York, where she trained to become a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Over the next 20 years she worked at 9 hospitals in 4 states including the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. It was during this experience that Dr. Giarraputo began her ascent into hospital leadership. This led her to eventually relocate to Southern California, serving as Director and Service Area Leader of Laboratory and Pathology for Kaiser Permanente, in Los Angeles County, where she developed among other procedures, laboratory protocols for the Ebola Virus.As her executive career flourished, she set her sights on multi-disciplinary hospital operations, as Ancillary Director for several UHS Hospital’s, Laboratory Services, Physical, Occupational, Speech. and Respiratory Therapies, and oversaw HAZMAT response, spanning Riverside and Los Angeles Counties. In the early days of the COVID pandemic, Dr. Giarraputo was selected as Service Area Leader for Providence Health & Services in Orange County,[a faith-based healthcare system]. During her tenure she has focused on the COVID virus mitigation through implementation, detection, testing, and reporting the virus.Dr. Giarraputo is a passionate servant leader, improving healthcare for all, including the poor and vulnerable. Her commitment to developing the next generation of Laboratory professionals and hospital leaders is a crucial part of her daily interactions with her team.
