ABOUT LIIZA GIE
My profession is Human Resources, practiced in the business of Higher Education. To date, my 21-year academic career includes a variety of knowledge, skills and competencies acquired in teaching and learning, community engagement and research through various job roles. Lecturing and interacting with diverse student population and staff members in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment has enabled me to be flexible and adaptable to any organisational environment. My academic administration and HR managerial skills was further developed in my previous position as Head of Department for Human Resources Management, which is the third largest academic department in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, consisting of 16 academics, 1 secretary and approximately undergrad and postgraduate students in six HR programmes. As a registered HR practitioner, Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) British Columbia & Yukon, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) UK, and Master HR Professional in Learning and Development with the SA Board for People Practices (SABPP), my expanded networks in higher education and industry ensure relevant and up to date HR professional practices are integrated into HR curriculum. In my current position as Associate Professor, I strive towards producing solutions to workplace problems while actively seeking new and innovative initiatives for the future world of work.
