About Joseph Sheppard
Over the course of my medical education I have been interested in how to make primary care more affordable. In medical school I began writing a blog about medical economics, titled Free Market Physician, where I explored and began developing many of these ideas that led me to establish an insurance-free practice. I am particularly indebted to the physicians of the Atlas MD Clinic in Wichita, Kansas, who coached me in the membership model that I have implemented. I opened Free Market Physician in July of 2014 where my patients pay a monthly membership fee and have 24/7 access to me by phone, email, or text. I guarantee same-day appointments, on time appointments, medications at cost, and labs at cost. My patients have seen significant savings with their health expenses and seem to be very happy with the personalized, one-on-one care I am able to provide.
