ABOUT JONATHAN RAE

I’m a strategist and practitioner working where ecology, enterprise and education meet. Over the past two decades I’ve guided organisations through transformation, linking the wellbeing of people, place and planet into viable futures. As Head of Schumacher College, I grew the college into one of the world’s foremost centres for ecological learning, combining academic excellence with lived experiment. At Dartington Hall Trust, I aligned sustainability, business and education that reduced costs, raised revenue and grew collaborations across departments. In Dorset, I built cross-sector coalitions that united farmers, quarry operators and conservationists in shared purpose. Earlier still, my work with the Middle East Peace Process and the Syrian steppe redefined how conservation, livelihood and governance could coexist.Today I lead Ecoliteracy Consulting, supporting foundations, educational institutions and enterprises to design partnerships, programmes and business models that bridge ecological integrity with financial resilience. I also serve as Commissioning Editor for Chelsea Green UK, amplifying voices shaping regenerative culture and science. What connects all of this is a belief that individuals, communities and institutions, like ecosystems, thrive when purpose, creativity and participation are held in balance. My practice combines strategic clarity with deep listening, enabling renewal in complex environments, from deserts to Dartmoor.
