SKILLS
ABOUT JONATHAN BEHAR
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in managing patients with heart rhythm disturbances. I work at Guy\'s and St Thomas\' NHS Foundation Trust where I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer within the Department of Imaging Sciences, Kings College London.I see patients with a range of cardiac complaints including palpitations, dizziness, blackouts, chest pain and breathlessness. I perform catheter ablations for a range of arrhythmias with a particular interest in new technologies for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. I am highly experienced in the implantation of cardiac devices (pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy) including the latest, miniaturised leadless pacemakers. In addition to specialist clinical training, I have a PhD from Kings College London which led to the co- invention of a patented software platform collaborating with clinicians, engineers and industry partners; this was nominated for a European innovation award in 2017. Through this, I became interested in medical device innovation and digital transformation and was selected to participate in the NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, alongside full time clinical training as a heart rhythm specialist registrar at the Barts Heart Centre and a clinical lecturer in Clinical Innovation at Queen Mary University of London.More recently as a Consultant in my previous position at The Royal Brompton Hospital, I led a pilot project to digitally transform the pre assessment and consent / shared decision making process for patients undergoing cardiac procedures. This involved employing and configuring a variety of digital tools and working within a large multi-disciplinary team to deliver improved patient care, during the COVID19 pandemic. This work won the 2021 Royal College of Physicians Clinical Excellence Award in the Digital category and was also a finalist for the BMJ Award in the same year. This year, I was selected by Health Education England to participate in the Topol Digital Fellowship working on the integration of this project within our new electronic health records.
