ABOUT JOHN RICE

John Rice is the Director, Middle School Teaching and Learning at Hamilton County Schools, which serves students in the Chattanooga, Tennessee metro area. In this role, he leads the middle school work around high-quality instructional materials; instructional support for teachers, instructional coaches, and principals; and direct supports for the district\'s 21 middle schools. Prior to Hamilton County, John served as Executive Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning at Cedar Rapids Community School District, which serves students in the state of Iowa. In that role, he led the district\'s work around curriculum, assessment, and instruction, while also managing a wide range of additional school services for Cedar Rapids. Prior to Cedar Rapids, John spent eight years at DC Public Schools. At DCPS, John pioneered blended learning, both in his classroom and across the district. John founded the district’s blended learning department in 2012, which grew from a math focus to eventually include all subject areas and all grades levels preK-12. His work included implementing, evaluating, and scaling blended learning models and digital content, as well as redesigning whole schools to enable large-scale improvements in teaching and learning with technology.
