About John Plifka
I have a particular interest in improving adult learning and development programs through better leadership. As a result of my own experiences, I am familiar with the challenges and frustrations endemic to adult students struggling to simultaneously live their lives and attend developmental opportunities. I am convinced that a more focused improvement in adult developmental programs will make positive short and long term differences for our country. As part of my life-mission, I want to make educational and developmental programs relevant and responsive to the unique needs of adult learners. Adult learners are increasingly becoming more complex and multi-tasked with life’s complications. Shrinking budgets marred with public and political scrutiny continue to complicate a leader’s ability to offer relevant developmental programs. The growing challenges leaders face today increasingly strengthen my resolve to become one of the leaders of tomorrow in order to develop and deliver better developmental programs.Specialties: My expertise is concentrated in the conceptual, technical and interpersonal competencies required to lead and manage complex organizations at every level (emphasis on education, training, and development). In addition, my expertise focuses on national security policy and strategy with emphasis on relationships among the military, economic, diplomatic and informational elements of power in both international and domestic context as well as communication, leader development, and learning.
