I provide compassionate, safe, and person-centred care for children with complex medical and developmental needs, in line with NHS values. My role involves supporting children with autism spectrum disorder, Lamb-Shaffer syndrome, epilepsy, and severe respiratory conditions, including tracheostomy-dependent care following bilateral lung collapse.Clinical ResponsibilitiesI carry out routine tracheostomy care, suctioning, humidification, and equipment checks, and respond promptly to airway emergencies. I monitor for signs of respiratory distress, follow escalation procedures, and ensure infection prevention and control at all times. For children with epilepsy, I observe for seizure activity, follow personalised care plans, administer rescue medication when required, and provide post-seizure monitoring.Monitoring and DocumentationI take and record observations including heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature, reporting changes promptly to registered staff. I maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in line with NHS documentation standards.Developmental and Emotional SupportI use structured routines, sensory-friendly approaches, and communication aids to support children’s learning, independence, and emotional wellbeing. I collaborate with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educators, and families to adapt activities to each child’s needs.Safeguarding and ProfessionalismI follow NHS safeguarding policies, recognising and reporting concerns to protect children from harm. I maintain dignity, privacy, and respect in all aspects of care, and work in partnership with families to promote inclusion and quality of life.I am committed to continuous professional development, ensuring my skills remain current in areas such as tracheostomy management, seizure response, and autism support, contributing to high-quality outcomes for the children in my care.
