About Jaque Barr
As a Recovery and Rehabilitation Social Worker at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, I conducted critical biopsychosocial intakes for veterans entering our residential treatment program. My assessments of those with severe mental health and substance use disorders directly shaped their individualized care plans, while establishing trust during vulnerable transitions. This frontline experience honed my ability to rapidly identify needs and connect veterans with appropriate services. My work as a HUD-VASH Social Worker further deepened my expertise in addressing the intersection of homelessness and mental health. By securing permanent housing through HUD vouchers and delivering trauma-informed case management, I witnessed firsthand how housing-first approaches transform lives—an experience that fuels my commitment to holistic veteran care.Later, as a Psychotherapist at Willis Counseling and Consulting, I supported clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. This clinical foundation ensures my consulting work remains grounded in evidence-based, compassionate care. Now, as the founder of At Ease Counseling and Consulting LLC, I partner with nonprofits, government agencies, and healthcare organizations to:Train clinicians on military cultural competency.Strengthen mental health programs for veterans and military families.Consult with nonprofits to amplify their impact on service members. My perspective is shaped by 9+ years as a U.S. Army Reserve Captain and my Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) at the University of Kentucky, where I specialized in military behavioral health. These experiences, combined with frontline social work, allow me to bridge gaps between clinical practice, systemic challenges, and the unique needs of military communities.Let’s collaborate to ensure those who serve receive the understanding and resources they deserve.
