ABOUT JAN-ECKHARD WEGENER

Helping families preserve and transition wealth across generations is at the heart of my work. As part of the Private Clients team at POELLATH, I advise high-net-worth individuals, family-owned businesses, and foundations on complex questions of tax and corporate law — always with a long-term perspective in mind. My work often focuses on structuring: developing tailored solutions for corporate restructurings, optimizing holding structures, and guiding clients through the intricacies of asset succession. Many of these projects have international dimensions, which is why international tax law has become one of my core areas of expertise. I frequently support clients in setting up foreign legal entities (such as foundations) or planning cross-border relocations of asset holders. In my PhD thesis, I explore how usufruct arrangements can be used in business succession — and what tax consequences they entail.
