ABOUT GIUGIU BARSUOLA
I am a passionate and enthusiastic Community Library Assistant with unwavering willingness to offer compassionate and reliable help to the community and its most vulnerable groups, and to provide trustworthy and consistent information access. I have an extensive educational and academic background across different fields (from Classics and Art History to Philosophy to Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology), a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, and qualifications and work experience in Youth Work. I have studied and worked as an academic researcher in Italy, California (USA), The Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and the UK. I live in Cambridge, UK. I am a UNISON Union Representative for Cambridgeshire Libraries.I am a Certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher (300h + 75h), yoga practitioner, Buddhist meditator, and LGBTQ+ advocate. I am queer & non-binary and my pronouns are they/them. As a writer, I am a co-author of peer-reviewed scientific articles published in Frontiers in Psychology, Translational Psychiatry, and Cortex. I wrote for Science for The People. I published poems in Name and None, and HAIR ZINE. As a contemporary dancer and performer, I have performed at/for BAROKTHEGREAT, Santarcangelo Festival, Dancewood Festival, perAspera Festival, VIE Scena Contemporanea Festival, the University of California Santa Cruz, Festival delle Arti della Giudecca (Venice), Cambridge Central Library, and the University of Cambridge. I am currently focusing my movement research on Tanztheater and Butoh. I have a keen academic interest in Gender Studies, Queer Theory, Abolitionist Studies, and Critical Theory. I have a practical interest in Tibetan Buddhism, Yoga Philosophy, Korean, Sanskrit, Physical Theatre/Performance Art, Poetry, Veganism, Activism, and Mutual Aid. In my free time, I knit & crochet, and do cross-stitching, quilting, embroidery, and origami.
