Compton native, Fred Martin grew up keenly aware of the escalating violence and drugs in his community. One of ten siblings growing up in Compton, California, Fred Martin developed a passion for music at an early age. Unfortunately, when Fred’s parents were unable to afford his saxophone rental, he had to set his passion aside. When this happened, Fred vowed to ensure that other parents would not have to choose between their child’s dreams and the family’s well-being.Fred created Urban Entertainment Institute (UEI) as a non-profit organization designed to teach students music, dance and multiple aspects of music and the arts. For over 18 years, UEI has provided a revival of afterschool academic enrichment programs for Los Angeles Unified, Compton Unified, Chicago Unified, Philadelphia and San Francisco schools, where they have trained students in vocal, dance, and theatrical performance, and digital recording, as well as the technical aspects of the entertainment industry.In 2018, the Compton Kidz Club was birthed out of UEI. The Club has amassed success in promoting character, performing arts skills, and a desire for learning in students. To further that success, the Compton Performing Arts Academy, an online school and subsidiary of the Compton Kidz Club will open as a private school grades 9-12 in September, 2020.It is the embodiment of a long held vision of a school that embodies the redemption of the whole child, the academic development and the performing arts skills of students needing a different educational experience. A school free of bullying and negativity, inclusive of a safe and supportive learning environment and on track for college and career pathways.This pivotal moment has brought to fruition the Compton Kidz Club.
