ABOUT EMMA RYAN

I have worked in the NHS for 26 years and I am currently the Senior Partner at South View Partnership - a GMS GP Practice in South East London and a Clinical Director of Bromley Connect PCN.Alongside my clinical work, I have developed a broad portfolio career in leadership, education, and service innovation.Nationally, I am recognised as a leading advocate for tackling gambling-related harms. I serve as Clinical Lead for the NHS Primary Care Gambling Service – the first service of its kind in the UK – and as the Royal College of General Practitioners’ Clinical Champion for Gambling Harms.My work brings together clinical practice with system-level leadership, medical education, and national policy, with a strong emphasis on prevention, population health, and improving patient outcomes. I co-authored the Primary Care Gambling Competency Framework and helped to create the RCGP Gambling Harms Hub, giving primary care teams the tools and confidence to better identify and support affected patients. I also contributed as a committee member to the NICE guideline on gambling harms.Beyond this, I am actively involved in education, training, and public engagement – from webinars and podcasts to workshops and teaching resources – and was honoured by the Royal Society for Public Health for my work in embedding gambling harm awareness into healthcare.My wider leadership experience includes roles as Clinical Prescribing Lead and Clinical Quality Lead for Bromley CCG, Chair of the Bromley Trainers Workshop, and membership of the NHS London Violence Reduction Clinical and Professional Leadership Group (2019–23).
