ABOUT EMMA LOUISE GALE

As a Research Fellow in Child and Adolescent Health at the University of St Andrews, I am deeply immersed in advancing knowledge of relationships between physical health, mental health and behaviours in children and adolescents through projects like the Sleep Well Scotland, Scotland Speaks, and the Teen Sleep Well Study. My passion lies in Child and Adolescent Public Health, where I aspire to implement interventions that enhance sleep and overall well-being in children and adolescents. I recently successfully defended my PhD thesis examining the shared determinants of and relationship between sleep and obesity in adolescents. My vision is driven by a desire to make a tangible impact on public health outcomes. With expertise in quantitative and qualitative data collection, statistical analysis, writing peer-reviewed publications, systematic reviews, ethical applications, recruitment and retention of participants in large studies, and academic teaching, I bring a comprehensive skill set to my work. Notably, my contributions have been recognized with international awards such as the New Investigator Award and Christian Guilleminault Award at World Sleep 2023, underscoring my commitment to excellence in research. My approach to teamwork is rooted in a multidisciplinary perspective, which I believe is key to fostering collaboration with researchers worldwide. I am passionate about building specialist teams, as I firmly believe in the power of collective potential to address complex challenges. Beyond academia, I find joy and balance in representing Scotland in badminton—a unique hobby that complements my dedication to both personal and professional excellence. Join me in shaping the future of public health, one innovative intervention at a time
