ABOUT DURGESH K. UPADHYAY

I am currently working as Assistant professor at Department of Psychology, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. As per the requirements of my present position, I am involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, planning, and conducting researches in my areas of interest. My primary research goals are directed toward understanding the sources of creativity in music; examine the process of creative music making; and developing pedagogy to inculcate creativity in music classrooms in an Institutional setup. I have completed my D. Phil on title ‘Psychosocial Dispositions of Creative Musicians’ under the supervision of Prof. Ajit K. Dalal from University of Allahabad. My areas of research interest are as follows: Music Education, Music Preferences, Creativity in Music, Music Elicitation in Qualitative Research, Indian Psychology, Emotion; Personality, and Value Education. Beyond my research successes (including eleven papers to date and others in preparation), I have been fortunate enough to obtain a wide range of teaching as well as other academic experiences. As my curriculum vita indicates, my teaching roles have included teaching assistant, instructor and mentor. Besides teaching and research, I am actively involved in training psychological/ soft skills to the students and professionals in relevant fields. I have been involved in teaching and training behavioral skills related to Understanding Self for Effectiveness, Interpersonal Communication, Relationship Management, Group Dynamics, Personal and Professional Excellence, Stress management, Values and Ethics, Time Management, Life Style for Happiness, etc. I am deeply committed to community outreach programmes. I am also a trained musician in Classical and Folk music. I have performed at various platforms namely All India Radio, ETV Uttar Pradesh, Sity Channel, etc. Composing music is my passion.
