ABOUT DAVID ROCK BOTTOMLEE
My passion is leading organizations and projects that make a lasting, positive impact on people. As Director of Flight Education at Auburn University’s School of Aviation, I draw on my experience as a instructor pilot in fighter and trainer aircraft, commander/ CEO of large organizations, and academic leader to inspire and equip the next generation of America’s leaders in aviation.Previously, I had the honor of serving as Dean of the U.S. Air Force’s Air War College, the premier institution for developing senior leaders in joint, multi-national, and multi-agency strategy, where our world-class faculty invested deeply in senior military students committed to securing freedom.With a Ph.D. focused on leadership in public administration from Auburn University, over 100 combat missions as an F-16 pilot, and thousands of hours training U.S. and international aviators, I approach every challenge as an opportunity for strategic problem-solving. My career has included roles as NATO Director of Air Operations in Kabul, U.S. diplomat and fighter instructor in Cairo, and faculty positions at both the U.S. Air Force Academy and the Air War College.My academic journey began at the U.S. Air Force Academy and continued with multiple master’s degrees in Business Administration, Counselling and Leadership Development, and Strategic Studies.Last, but not least, I aspire each day to live by these core values: Integrity First, Service to Others before Self, and Excellence in all I Do.
