Building on the concerning findings from my PhD which exposed alarming quantities of lead pollution from off-grid solar waste, I have recently started as a research consultant with Pure Earth: pioneers and an established authority in global lead pollution research. In this role with Pure Earth I aim to investigate the various sources of lead exposure and raise awareness of the associated global health burdens so that policies can be developed to mitigate lead poisoning: a leading driver of child brain poisoning, disability and avoidable deaths around the world. i) Investigate the contributions of the many different forms of lead exposure to the global health burden of lead poisoning ii) Raise awareness of lesser-known sources of lead exposure which present significant public health Investigate how to estimate the increase in Blood lead Level (BLL) and health burdens from different sources of lead exposure iv) Highlight key priority areas for governments in low- and middle-income countries to reduce health burdens from lead poisoning In parallel, I am also developing a strategy with Pure Earth to accelerate the transition to safe lead-acid battery recycling in low- and middle-income countries: a key driver of lead poisoning.
