ABOUT BIN ZHANG

I’m a linguist and postdoctoral researcher currently preparing my Habilitation in German linguistics at TU Dresden, which qualifies scholars for full professorship in the German academic system. My research integrates cognitive linguistics, construction grammar, metaphor theory, multimodality, and language education policy in multilingual and migration-affected contexts. I earned my PhD at the University of Göttingen, where I explored figurative meaning and usage patterns in Chinese and German through the lens of conceptual metaphor and construction grammar. Since then, I’ve developed a research profile that bridges theoretical depth with empirical and corpus-based methods. Currently, I lead the DFG-funded project “The Network of Idiomatic Constructions” (2025–2026), which uses corpus-linguistic tools to analyze idiomatic language patterns across languages, in collaboration with international partners, particularly in Taiwan. I’ve published in cognitive and educational linguistics, discourse analysis, and metaphor studies. I teach courses on grammar theory, metaphor and cognition, construction grammar, and German as a foreign language, with a focus on inclusive, multilingual, and digitally supported teaching. As Erasmus coordinator at TU Dresden’s Institute of German Studies and Media Cultures, I support international academic exchange.
