ABOUT BEN CHELL

Ben has been working as a psychologist in elite sport for the past 18 years. He is a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol), & a registered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), & Health Professional Council (HPC). Ben\'s qualifications include a degree & a Ph.D. in Psychology. Ben has a passion for getting the best out of individuals/teams & has enjoyed working for a variety of sports including England Table Tennis, GB Speed Skating, Athletics, Golf, Motor Sport & Football. Between 2005 & 2014 Ben held the position of \'Lead Psychologist\' for Team GB\'s Olympic Sailing Team, supporting them through both the 2008 & 2012 Olympic/Paralympic Games. Ben is currently \'Lead Psychologist\' for the EIS. This includes management & coaching psychology practitioners, whilst also working within a small team of specialists that solve problems & help remove blockers to performance to create positive change fast, using both ‘solution focused’ (e.g. Minimalist Intervention; Nudge) & \'less conscious\' methods (e.g. EMDR).Ben has undertaken consultancy roles with McLaren, F1, Indy 500 Series, Southampton FC & several of Europe\'s Leading \'Hedge Funds\'. Whilst Ben\'s responsibilities differ within these roles there is one common denominator, they are all high performing teams, with one goal, to be better than the rest! Ben has developed a model for business using the metaphor of sport, to help organisations develop skills required to consistently achieve higher performance.Ben\'s personal approach to his practice is based on a number of methods including \'human function\' & ‘strength-based models\' to develop high performance in sport, business and education.Ben is fascinated by what psychological mechanisms underpin an individual/team\'s progression from ‘underachieving’ to making a ‘leap’ in performance.Ben\'s PhD research was based around ‘severe performance loss in sport’, which included areas like \'choking\',\'the yips\', and \'lost movement syndrome\'.
