ABOUT DAVID PLOUFFE
In LinkedIn language, I’m an award-winning facilitator of transformation who helps governments, communities, and individuals build networks that bring about complex urban and organizational change.More informally, I’m most proud of the career moments when I’ve enabled what you might call “kitchen table conversation” to help inspire those profound one-degree shifts that shed new light and spark new energy. This can happen because kitchen table conversation is more heartfelt and moves at a pace slower than the daily torrent of information we’re accustomed to. Here are some examples of how I helped enable change through deliberate engagement in my time with the cities of Vancouver and Calgary.• As a public programmer in Vancouver, I created a tour of the city’s historic neon light signage and related programs that helped spur a “neon renaissance.” After a City councilor took the tour, he successfully moved to reinstate previously banished neon signage in the civic development code as a way to celebrate the community’s past. • When the City of Calgary hired me to raise heritage awareness and engagement, I founded the Heritage Roundtable, an empowered group of about 30 community representatives who became key advocates and activists. The group helped spur the creation of a much-needed heritage ecosystem in Calgary, including the city-wide Heritage Awards program.• To kick off our Cultural Transformation Project at the City of Calgary, I gathered and nurtured “The First 100,” a motivated core of early adopters who would serve as a critical evaluative resource during program rollout. I was proud of how more than 90% of this group remained active with us for the entire two-year project.• Through the City of Calgary’s Innovation Lab, I hosted workshops exploring the notions \"delight\" and “courage,\" generating serious buzz and lasting conversation. The “delight” talk led to a thriving Microsoft Teams channel called The Delight Experiment where employees share stories and ideas. The courage workshop inspired the then City Manager to muse whether Calgary might add courage as the “5th C” to its existing list of values: Character, Competence, Commitment, and Collaboration.I believe in the synergies of connection, the explosive potential of partnerships, and the power of the one-degree shift. Collaboration is my DNA. I believe that it’s more than nice, it’s imperative.Do you have similar inclinations and ideas for potential one-degree shifts? I’m always happy to sink my teeth into these subjects. Reach out to me at d••••••••@gmail.com or (40••••••39
