About Dov Finkelstein

Dov B. Finkelstein is a clinical social worker in private practice in Passaic, NJ. He leads a number of weekly study groups for mental health professionals. Previous topics studied include trauma, couples therapy, self-agency, and an introduction to relational psychoanalysis. Dov specializes in the treatment of couples, treatment resistant cases, trauma, depression, OCD, and social phobia. Dov integrates a breadth of treatment modalities in his work including relational psychoanalysis, family/systems theory, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. He firmly believes in collaborating with clients to customize the treatment to best meet their needs. Dov has benefited from advanced supervision in relational psychoanalysis by Dr.’s Lewis Aron, Jeremy Safran, and Melanie Suchet, as well as in cognitive behavioral therapy from Dr.’s William Sanderson and Steven Friedman. He trained at The Ackerman Institute for the Family and is Level II certified in the Gottman therapy approach, and has a certificate from Dr. Virginia Sadock’s program at the NYU School of Medicine. Dov served as a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine for eight years. He is the author of a number of scholarly publications, as well as a weekly self-help column “The Therapist Is In” that covered a broad range of issues, and contributed a number of articles to Mishpacha Magazine.
