ABOUT LIZ DOUGLAS

I am SVP People and Organisation for Anglo American’s global group functions – Technical, Projects and Development, Legal and Corporate Relations, Finance (inc. Shared Services), Strategy and Sustainability and People and Organisational. Prior to this role, I was the Group’s first Head of Inclusion & Diversity, where I was instrumental in our I&D strategy from the ground up, bringing my functional departments along the journey to full implementation over a five year period.During this time we addressed bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, victimisation, and implemented market-leading policies and interventions such as those on domestic violence. We tackled issues around psychological safety, and innovated our mental wellness framework, removing stigma with early warning frameworks to identify symptoms and provide support. Anglo American is now recognised in the Bloomberg GEI, in The Times Top 50 companies for Gender Equality, as a Top Employer and as one of the UK\'s most inclusive companiesI have been fortunate to have had a varied career encompassing HR (with many organisational change programmes), internal and change communication, employee engagement, CSR, and marketing across many highly regulated sectors (financial services, aviation / travel and mining) both globally and in the UK and I have leveraged all that experience to deliver a step-change cultural shift here at AA. I have led I&D work-steams, driven high-profile projects on topics such as psychological safety, and positioned our business as a sector leader in I&D by engaging with subject matter experts and fully assessing the impact on our employees, taking a people-centric approach at all times. Anglo American’s “Change Phrasing” position on sensitive areas like domestic violence, disability, and mental health are very much a key focus. I was also the co-chair of the ICMM DEI working group where we focused on increasing diversity and inclusion across the whole of the mining sector evolving our mining principles and introducing new standards.HR and I&D is ever-evolving and I am a passionate and proactive advocate ambassador for Anglo American, putting our company at the forefront of developments. I’m proud of the ground-breaking work I’ve been lucky enough to have been involved in such as writing articles, conducting seminars, and speaking publicly.
