About Douglas Kopel

Having been a design/builder for the past 4 decades I have completed more than 400 projects totaling more than $3.5 billion US dollars. These projects have ranged from the remodel of historic theaters and medical centers to for-sale high-end housing developments and corporate headquarters. My degrees in both Architecture and Civil Engineering have enabled me to excel with developers and investors by merging creativity with the precision of an engineer. My talents include adept management of actors ranging from investors to trade workers while controlling budgets and schedules along with ensuring technically sound solutions to construction problems. I take great pride in the competent completion of construction projects for my clients through collaboration and effective written and visual communication.My vision as a Design/Builder is to provide multi-disciplined peer-quality assurance and constructability reviews to improve document quality and ultimately validate the project budget. Whether evaluating alternative systems, reviewing design documents, producing and/or reviewing a formal estimate or determining procurement strategies, the focus is constant scrutiny to ensure value and improve solutions to best meet owner objectives. At key design milestones, value-engineering workshops are used to identify and test alternate systems that offer performance and/or cost advantages while attenuating the schedule. Open communication in developing the owner’s primary goals, with a strong team relationship between the Owner and Design/Builder, is a proven means of reducing the number of constructability reviews and delays.

   Acted in a CM/GMP and Design Build roles with Dohn Constriction as a project director, to provide GMP and Design Build services to the clients on various projects. In this role, I was responsible for all design professional, subcontractors’ negotiations, awarding of such contracts and contract preparation. The development of owner programs with overall project definitions to obtain a complete project delivery.
