About Douglas Kniss

Current Position: Emeritus Professor, The Ohio State University, effective December 31, 2016 I am professor of obstetrics and gynecology and biomedical engineering at The Ohio State University. My primary academic appointment is in obstetrics and gynecology at the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State. I hold a secondary appointment in biomedical engineering in the College of Engineering. I have been a full professor with tenure since 2003. Education and Training: I completed undergraduate education at Suquehanna University in 1980 and graduated with a B.A. in biology and psychology. At Susquehanna I was inducted in Beta Beta Beta and Psi Chi, national biology and psychology honor societies, respectively. In 1980, I matriculated at The Ohio State University to pursue doctoral studies in cell biology and anatomy in the College of Medicine. I earned a Ph.D. in 1986 and then conducted postdoctoral studies in the Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. From 19••••88, I served as sponsored programs officer at the Ohio State University Research Foundation, until I joined the faculty of the College of Medicine in 1988. Academic Positions: I am the founding director of the Laboratory of Perinatal Research, the basic science component of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During my tenure at Ohio State I have trained more than 30 clinical fellows, 20 graduate students, a dozen undergraduate students and medical students, several resident physicians, and 12 postdoctoral fellows.
