ABOUT DOUGLAS BLEASE

Specialising in the study of habitats and species I provide bespoke project input, impact assessment, habitat restoration and management, and gains for biodiversity and ecosystem services. I have extensive experience in managing project teams to deliver targeted baseline survey, appraisal and assessment, auditing and monitoring of compliance for a range of land use, development, and restorative proposals. I hold species licenses for badger, bat, otter and freshwater pearl mussel and I am regularly involved in projects which are bound by licensable conditions such as road construction; housing development, harbour re-development, environmental enhancement initiatives, major infra-structure, nuclear and renewable energy developments. My background lies in the field of arbor-ecology, and I have extensive technical and practical experience of all forestry/arboriculture operations; assessment of veteran trees and semi-natural woodlands; protected species survey; BS5837 survey; woodland management planning; and ecological support during master-planning and detailed design. I have a particular interest in the research and application of low- impact silviculture systems and the threats facing ecosystems from invasive species, herbivore effects, and land use change. I have been a qualified tree climber for over 23 years and have conducted elevated tree work and arbor-ecology projects across the UK.I am a full member of CIEEM and I actively contribute to a range of conservation and community groups.
