About Doug Hanly

I serve as Chief Investment Officer of a public retirement system, where I focus on building durable institutional investment systems. Over my career, I have contributed to the management of more than $25 billion across premier institutions, including Mass General Brigham and Washington University in St. Louis. Earlier in my career, I generated the highest returns in the history of the UCLA Anderson student investment fund and was later named to the program’s Hall of Fame. Following graduation, my faculty advisor invited me to serve as CIO of his investment firm. My work emphasizes courage under governance, disciplined process, and structured review. In addition to my fiduciary role, I teach hedge fund investing at LSU and founded the Next CIO Institute to help develop future leaders of the global investment industry.
