30+ years of Pharmaceutical Finance experience with a concentration in Research and Development. Key responsibilities have included the financial support and valuation of R&D investments, budgeting of functions and projects, and collaborative working with external partners.In my current role, as Sr. Director of Clinical Finance, I oversee an organization of ~50 professionals responsible for the forecasting and expense recognition of Clinical Trials and the design of a new Clinical Trial Accounting System. I also lead the Finance Support of the Development Review Committees and provide Finance Support for the Procurement Function.Previously, as the R&D Oncology Portfolio Finance Director, I managed a team of 11 professionals responsible for providing financial support to Global Product Teams, managing a budget in excess of $1bn, and providing financial support to R&D investment decisions. Before that, I represented Finance on the Development Review Committees (DRC). The DRC is responsible for reviewing / approving the quality, time, and cost components of development plans across all therapeutic areas. By challenging protocols and delivery assumptions, and working with Clinicians and the Finance Teams, I played a key role in helping AZ achieve its goal of reducing R&D expense.I also completed assignments as the Finance representative on Global Product Teams and Functional Leadership Teams, I contributed to initiatives that advance medicines to the next stage of development and led efforts to accomplish this in the most cost effective way.Experience in the Tax and Controllers departments helps round out my Pharmaceutical experience, as does the contributions to investment decisions. Commercial and Operational issues / opportunties are considered in each business case.
