   As of June 2020, I completed my 23rd year in my teaching faculty position at Goshen College (28th year as a GC Employee), 22 of those years as Theater Department Chair. I am now officially retired from Goshen College and am taking a TWO-year \"personal sabbatical\" to get my bearings after a 30+ year career (Goshen College/Fresno Pacific University/Bowling Green State University). I\'m enjoying a reprieve from the intensity of theater in higher education that has always included teaching/meetings during the day and rehearsals in the evenings. It is a joy to turn over a healthy theater department to the next generation of highly capable colleagues. Little did I know that my early retirement plan would be launched during a pandemic. I am slated to teach ONE class in May 2023. I agreed to this exception in retirement because The Arts in London is my all-time favorite course. I\'ve been teaching it in odd-numbered years since so with 2021 cancelled due to pandemic, 2023 will be the 12th offering with my art and music colleagues). 45 GC students/3 profs in London for an arts-packed three weeks in the month of May. What could be merrier!In June 2022, my \"personal sabbatical years\" will have ended and I\'ll go into an early retirement phase I\'m calling \"free agency,\" which means open to whatever comes next. I just know it won\'t be full-time college teaching as that most satisfying life chapter has happily ridden into the sunset. Did I mention I enjoy purposefully mixed metaphors? It\'s not exactly rocket surgery.
