About Dot Butler
Passionate about beautiful built environments, and emphatic about finding best practice for construction methodologies, Dot looks to innovate with disruptive technologies, breakthrough approaches, and both sustainable and health supporting materials for the built space. With deep experience as both a principal architectural and interior designer, Dot continues to work as a consultant in architectural and interior design, plan set review, and bespoke furniture and lighting design. During her time at ICON, Dot was a key player in coordinating the collaborative effort from design, CD development to execution of build and 3D print of homes in the Gulf Coast of Texas. Dot sourced and executed solutions for problematic foundations in clay soil with high PVR. Dot managed client relationships, vendors and subs, along with the project schedule and material procurement. As principal designer at Dot Butler Design, Dot listened for the hoped for design outcomes, studied their desired aesthetic and sense of style, while gathering the functional and flow demands of the immediate and possible future use of the designed spaces and property, including site specific opportunities and limitation. After reflecting back to the client vision that answered the design challenges through hand drawn concept and perspective drawings, Dot would generate CD taken through engineering and permitting. Dot would also offer construction management services, material sourcing, logistics, and expediting, commissioned bespoke furniture and lighting for fabrication as needed, ultimately delivering the vision realized. As a consultant to several non-profit organizations looking to enter the home goods market, Dot provided market intel, design input, product development and marketing strategies. As partner and creative director at Bluecrate (bluecratefindings.com), Dot works to collect a distinct offering of ethically sourced antiques, architectural elements and accessories as well as small batch hand crafted furnishings for the US wholesale and retail market. Additionally, Dot directs merchandising and sales efforts across various models and platforms as well as managing the integration of inventory tracking and POS software.Prior to opening retail showrooms, Dot supported wholesale and tradeshow sales for Asia Pacific/ Bluecrate. In the years directly out of University Dot worked as a freelance journalist and photographer.
