ABOUT PD DR. DOROTHEA KAUFMANN
At Aperta Academic Coaching, I help students and early-career academics navigate their path to study programs, scholarships, and academic goals. With over 15 years of experience in academic advising, selection processes, and as a reviewer, I support clients in showcasing their strengths, mastering application processes, and maximizing opportunities. My approach combines personalized coaching, practical guidance, and in-depth knowledge of university and scholarship systems—enabling each individual to successfully pursue their academic vision.Furthermore, I work at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and human connection. With telmednet I explored what it takes to build digital-health solutions with real potential for patients and providers. The project is on pause - but the experiences shaped how I see healthcare: meaningful change needs trust, timing, and strong partnerships. Before launching telmednet, I led #ARMED, a groundbreaking telemedicine project at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Heidelberg University Hospital. There, I pioneered the use of telemedicine to support victims of violence — work that sharpened my understanding of how digital tools can create real, immediate impact in medicine. It also taught me that innovation thrives where disciplines meet — and that bureaucracy loves a good challenge. With over a decade of experience in healthcare innovation, I bring deep expertise in digital transformation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and team leadership. I am passionate about creating technology that works for real people in real clinical settings — not just in theory. On top of this, I teach Molecular Biology and University Didactics at the Heidelberg University of Education and train educators in innovative, evidence-based teaching practices. I see education, medicine, and science as interconnected ecosystems — and I love helping people navigate them more effectively.Public service is another key part of my life: I have served as a city councillor in Heidelberg for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen since 2019. There, I advocate for sustainable, inclusive development and help shape local policies that reflect the values of equity and innovation.
