ABOUT DORIN PREDA
I am a Senior HPC Engineer with 15+ years of experience in various HPC-related positions like System Engineer, Solutions Architect and Manager/Director. Following a Ph. D. in Applied Mathematics - where I spent my time between teaching and implementing numerical algorithms for Mixed Integer Optimization Problems - I started working as an HPC Engineer. My job consisted in designing and implementing turn-key solutions based on customer requirements (HPC clusters, Parallel filesystems, Batch systems), Integrating and Benchmarking scientific applications and Supporting such HPC solutions.Around five years ago I co-created the HPC Business Unit at Axians Cloud Builder, entity that I currently co-manage as Technical Director. My main interests are HPC Architecture (CPU, GPU/accelerators, fast interconnects), Middleware (Compilers, MPI, Batch Systems), Scalable Storage Solutions (parallel filesystems, object storage) and Artificial Intelligence (Distributed Deep Learning, a.k.a. when AI meets HPC). Following current trends in HPC (like Cloud Bursting, Containers for HPC, Remote Visualization) is also part of my duties.During my career I had the opportunity to work with various customers in different domains like Space Industry (CNES, Airbus Defense and Space, CLS), Oil and Gaz (Total), Life Sciences and Healthcare (INRA Toulouse, Sanofi, CHU Toulouse, Institut Servier, CIRAD, …), Aeronautic Industry (Airbus, Daher, Turbomeca, Aerolia, Sogerma, …), Research Centers and Academia (Cerfacs, Cenaero, Mesocentre Bordeaux, UM6P.) and others (DGA, SHOM, Solvay, Mercator, CEA).
