ABOUT DORIAN FOUGÈRES
Dorian works to reverse the degradation and destruction of nature. He combines strong organizational management and development skills with stakeholder mediation and scientific competence to help shape public policy as well as financial institution and corporate behavior. He moves comfortably between vision, strategy, and tactics to catalyze systemic change in both organizations and society. His skillset stems from 25+ years of work in financial and corporate sustainability, state government, multiparty mediation, and the university (most to least recent). Four career highlights include (1) writing and implementing the California Tahoe Conservancy’s (a state agency) 20••••23 strategic plan, including requisite organizational restructuring;(2) co-anchoring the Conservancy during COVID-19, in the executive role of acting deputy director;(3) serving as the Southern California office director and senior mediator for the Center for Collaborative Policy; and (4) developing and deliveirng a course on collaborative leadership for California state agencies. Currently a senior account manager within CDP\'s Capital Markets Europe division, he serves as a subject matter expert for more than 70 banks, asset owners and managers, and insurers representing just under $25 trillion in assets in France and Benelux, as well as companies and colleagues, on climate change, biodiversity, forests, water, and plastics, including the nature-climate nexus. Key responsibilities include data sales and development; engagement strategy and practice; advocating for linked climate-nature transition planning; and maintaining and building the network of financial signatories. He completed his PhD in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at the University of California at Berkeley (2005), specializing in political ecology, with extensive fieldwork in Indonesia; and a BA Anthropology summa cum laude at Cornell University (1998), specializing in participatory action research, with fieldwork in Canada, Australia, and the USA. Dorian is a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Commission on Ecosystem Management, and serves as the leader for its Social-Ecological Resilience and Transformation thematic group. He enjoys running, practicing Mysore-style yoga, getting into the water, getting his hands in permaculture dirt, and getting into the cold mountain backcountry.
