Every morning, I wake up driven by the chance to make a positive difference in someone’s life.In the Māori world, we speak about kotahitanga (unity) and manaakitanga (hospitality and kindness), and whether the waka is heading in the right direction. These values guide and support me, and have steered me through significant challenges and opportunities, including- Overcoming five months in a spinal unit, relearning how to walk after a freak accident- Leading a multi-million dollar health organisation as CEO- Navigating the fine line between getting into trouble and doing good as a Māori boy growing up in Invercargill.Life has taught me to learn from my mistakes, how to apologise, reflect, and move forward. Being a leader—and a human—means navigating life\'s road with all its ups and downs. It’s how you travel down the road that counts.
