Two beliefs I hold to be true:1 - Just because I haven\'t done it before does NOT mean I can\'t do it.2 - You know more than you think you know.These two base beliefs have lead me through a varied career I am proud to call mine. The ability to \"Just figure it out\" has been the basis of much of my success, and as I consider this, I can say the following traits continue to be required.You must be willing to fail. To \"just figure it out\" doesn\'t mean you get it right out of the gate, it means you make decisions focused on progress to the best of your ability. As you assess that progress you may have to take a step back, fix a miss and then move on, or maybe completely start over, just don\'t stand still. Go.You must realize you won\'t do it alone. As I went through the process of writing a research protocol and engaging an external IRB for oversight, I was at a loss as to where to begin. However, I work with a number of doctors and researchers all of whom had at least a base knowledge on what was included. I listened, I learned and went forward, willing to fail and then start over. It was accomplished.Reference point \"you\". We all have histories and experiences which have lead us to where we sit today and those experiences hold value. When I led Innovative Research through its acquisition of Molecular Innovations I didn\'t have that full experience historically under my belt. But I witnessed it, I experienced it from different view points, and I was aware of the many pit falls that could get in the way of a successful integration. My personal reference points drove \"what\'s next\".Lastly, trust yourself. Confidence is a trait born out of self trust. This trusting of self is developed through a track record of decisions that have created your positive progress. When you can look back and see the decisions you made have created positive progress in your world, allow yourself to trust yourself. Confidence is based in experience, arrogance is based on presumption. Confidence isn\'t loud, it isn\'t flashy, it is simply knowing you have history of making sound decisions and deciding to continue on doing so.This is what I believe, this is what I teach, this is how I lead.
