VisionTo provide a rigorous, full curriculum education within a clinical setting with an emphasis on language skills for Exceptional Student Education and English Language Learners.The Institute is a Florida state supported school that opened in August 2015. Its purpose is to deliver a rigorous full curriculum education for students who need language services in order to fulfill their educational futures and become all they aspire too.The school delivers clinical services to students within their school day,within a rigorous educational environment in order to facilitate students\' academic growth. Students receive intensive reading instruction two to three days a week in an award winning reading curriculum developed for special needs language students.The main thrust of services revolve around speech/language to maximize students\' growth, not only in speech but in both expressive and receptive vocabularies to promote comprehension; however, other services such as applied behavioral analysis is an active service integrated into our curriculum. In addition, outside behavioral services are assimilated into the students\' school day of the need is present. The next step for Lakeland Institute for Learning is to develop a cadre of service providers to offer choice to our families on site. Occupational and physical therapy will also be available. Since the clinical model meets students’ physical or emotional needs, teachers are presented the opportunity to step up and apply more rigorous learning. This is a different venue for this population. In addition, pre-career academies in both Culinary Arts and Technology are offered to middle school students. As the school moves forward, we will be developing the career focused mindset and project based learning for the different grade and functioning abilities based on the students’ talents and the needs of the community’s work force.We are educators and we care that students learn!
